INGREDIENTS

1/2 cup unsalted butter- melted and slightly cooled

1 cup all-purpose flour

1 cup yellow cornmeal

1/4 cup brown sugar

1 1/2tsp ground turmeric

1tsp baking powder

1/2tsp baking soda

1/4tsp fine sea salt

1 cup buttermilk

1/4 honey

2 large eggs

DIRECTIONS

STEP 1

Prehead oven to 400 degrees F with rack positioned in the middle of oven. Meanwhile, grease a large 9-inch cast iron skillet to 9-inch square baking dish with butter. Place skillet or dish in over to heat up.

STEP 2

In a large bowl, whisk together flour, cornmeal, sugar, turmeric, baking powder, baking soda and salt.

STEP 3

Make a well in the center of the mixture and add buttermilk, honey and eggs. Mix together to combine, then add the cooled melted butter. Mix again until just combined- DO NOT OVER MIX.

STEP 4

Remove the skillet or baking dish from oven and pour the batter into the skillet or baking dish- it should sizzle.

STEP 5

Bake in oven for about 20-23 minutes or until the bread begins to brown on the top and a toothpick comes out clean. Allow to cool for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
